AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has claimed he received threats from some social media elements who had also issued such threats to Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bhukari. Bhukari was gunned down in Srinagar recently.

After a complaint was lodged by Owaisi’s team, Twitter India blocked some of the offensive tweets. Syed Abdahu Kashaf, head of social media of AIMIM, brought to notice of Twitter India the accounts from which the threats came.

Kashaf said after an online complaint was lodged, Twitter suspended two accounts and blocked the objectional tweets in another account. Kashaf tweeted to Twitter to verify if those accounts were fake or based out of Rawalpindi, Sopore or Delhi.

Owaisi had recently refused to accept the UN report on human rights violations in Kashmir and said he

solidly stood behind the Indian government. For the stance he had taken, he was being bombarded with criticism.

“Dear Asaduddin Owasi, good that you’ve shed your cloak of being a friend of Kashmir and Kashmiris. From now on, for us, you are no better than a Modi or a Shah,” a tweet on one of the Twitter accounts read.

Meanwhile, Owaisi’s supporters have asked Hyderabad police and the Centre to take care of the Hyderabad Lok Sabha MP’s security following the threats.

Congress leader and former Union minister Anil Shastri said Owaisi’s statement on the UN report regarding Kashmir was appreciated. “He is a statesman, a nationalist and an Indian in the true sense of the word. BJP leaders should learn nationalism from him,” he added.
