Osmania University Teachers’ Association (OUTA) called off the indefinite strike on Wednesday after the Telangana State government has taken a decision to extend the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to the teaching and non-teaching staff of Osmania University.

As per this decision, the employees including teachers who were recruited on or after September 1, 2004 will be covered under CPS. As per CPS, 10 per cent of basic plus DA will be deducted from employees and the same amount will be contributed by the employer and credited into a permanent account numbers of employee.

President Osmania University Teachers’ Association told the newspaper, “The government also agreed to extend the old pension scheme to those who were recruited between April 1, 2001 and August 8, 2004. This has been informed by the vice-chancellor, Osmania University, to the agitating teachers. 

“We thank the Chief Minister for his timely intervention in resolving the issue of CPS. OUTA also thanks the V-C for taking initiation to resolve the issue. The OUTA thanks the teachers for extending support in the long struggle in resolving CPS issue.”
