No RC for vehicles without HSRP

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has stopped issuing Registration Certificates (RC) to new vehicles that are not fixed with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).

The decision, which is being implemented at the Khairatabad RTA from last week, is to curb rampant use of fancy number plates by vehicle owners. According to a senior Transport official, vehicle owners in the city were openly flouting rules and despite paying the feeing for HSRP while registration, were not fixing them.

“People just pay the money and collect number plates, but do not fix them. Instead, they go to number plate shops to fix fancy number plates” said J Pandurang Naik, Joint Transport Commissioner, Hyderabad, adding that some vehicle owners were paying the fees, but not even collecting the

high security registration plates.

Earlier, the department used to deliver RC to vehicle owners through speed post. Presently, owners have to collect the same from RTA offices by providing a counter foil issued by the HSRP representative, after which the RC would be issued. A senior Transport official said that the department would soon send legal notices to owners, who pay for HSRP but do not collect and fix them.

“We are also developing a software, wherein an SMS will be sent to the motorist once the number plates are ready. After a grace period of 30 days, a legal notice will be sent to them,” the official said. The new rule, now being implemented at the Khairatabad RTA on a pilot basis, will soon be extended to all RTA offices in the State.
