Mini-theatre complex at Gandhi Hospital

Mon 03 Jul 2017, 11:52:35
A mini-theatre complex comprising three to four operation theatres along with post-op recovery wards to enable surgeons to conduct liver transplant surgeries is coming up at Gandhi Hospital. The mini-operation theatre complex will be ‘shared’ by surgeons from the Gastroenterology departments of Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and Gandhi Hospital.

The surgeons are expected to attempt liver transplant surgeries at the upcoming modular operation theatre complex at Gandhi Hospital. While liver transplant surgery has not been attempted at Gandhi Hospital, the Gastroenterology department of OGH has already conducted five cadaver liver transplant surgeries, an auto-liver transplant and one liver and pancreas transplant surgery.

The decision to construct modular operation theatres at Gandhi Hospital

means that patients who are getting treated by OGH doctors will have to come to Gandhi Hospital at Musheerabad to undergo transplant surgeries, which will be conducted by the same team of surgeons from OGH. Earlier, the State health authorities had decided to construct modular operation theatres on the second floor of the old inpatient building, which is a heritage structure, at OGH.

The State government in principle has given its nod to construct the three modular theatres, which could cost anywhere between Rs. 15 crore and Rs. 20 crore.According to senior doctors, modular operation theatres are finished steel structures that come prefabricated. They can be assembled quickly with high finish quality and provide long durability with less chance of bacterial and fungal infections.
