Micron Technology to set up in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is attracting global companies from across industries. The city is becoming a hub for advanced technology product development and manufacturing. While the city hosts several mobile making units that cater to wider markets, it is building its capabilities consistently in the semiconductors and chips space.

Global companies are choosing the city for its industry-friendly policies by the State government, quality and cost of living, and availability of quality talent pool. Micron Technology is now getting added to the marquee list of giants which have chosen the city for its operations.

The $51 billion (Rs 3.63 lakh crore) US semiconductors company, Micron Technology Inc., had meetings with the Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao over the last few months exploring its interest in investing in Telangana. Following a fresh meeting on Monday, Micron has decided to set up its operations in Hyderabad.

As a part of its plan, the company would be leasing about 1.8 lakh sq ft in an SEZ facility in Madhapur where it would be investing over Rs 300 crore and hire close to 1,000 engineering and IT professionals over the next few years.

Electronics and Semiconductors vertical in Hyderabad.

Micron’s senior director, Asia-Legal, Stephen Drake, and director, Singapore-Legal, Amrinder Sidhu, met on Monday with the Minister for IT & Industries, Government of Telangana, the principal secretary to the Government, Jayesh Ranjan, and the chief relations officer, Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri.

Micron has a large presence in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, China and Malaysia and was contemplating increasing its presence in India. This will be the company’s largest presence in India. The company offers innovative memory and storage solutions. It has a portfolio of global brands such as Micron, Crucial and Ballistix in addition to its broad portfolio of memory and storage technologies including DRAM, NAND, NOR Flash and 3D XPoint memory.

With a 40 years of technology leadership, Micron’s memory and storage solutions enable disruptive trends, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomous vehicles, in key market segments such as cloud, data centre, networking and mobile.

The Minister for IT & Industries, Government of Telangana has stated that Micron’s presence would boost the Electronics and Semiconductors vertical in Hyderabad.
