The scorching summer refused to loosen its grip on the city on Sunday as well with the mercury lodged well above 41 degrees Celsius and forcing denizens to stay indoors during the weekend. To make things worse, the weatherman said Monday could be hotter.

Several parts of Telangana also continued to sizzle with Adilabad recording the season’s highest on Sunday at 45.1 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), some parts of the district experienced heatwave conditions, while only isolated instances of rain were recorded in parts of the State.

Busy areas such as LB Nagar, Punjagutta, Madhapur and Jubilee Hills saw thin traffic on Sunday, and hangout

spots such as Tank Bund were deserted too.

IMD officials said the heat conditions were likely to remain the same, or get worse, in the days to come. The possibility of Monday recording 42 degrees Celsius was not ruled out.

Meanwhile, of the 10 locations across Telangana for which IMD releases data every day, only Hanamkonda recorded less than 40 degrees Celsius — 39.5 degrees Celsius. The other high temperatures recorded in the State included Nizamabad that registered 44.5, followed by Medak at 44.1 and Ramagundam at 43.4. While it was 42 in Nalgonda, the temperature was 41.8 in Khammam, 41.2 degrees Celsius in Mahbubnagar and 40.8 in Bhadrachalam.
