KTR inaugurates bus terminal in Old City

Municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) and information technology (IT) minister K T Rama Rao inaugurated the newly-constructed bus terminal and depot complex and commuter amenities centre at Farooqnagar in the Old City on Tuesday .

“The construction of this bus depot is part of the government's efforts to support the road transport authorities in easing passenger woes. We will also ensure that ample funds are allocated to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, in the overall budget,“ said KTR, during the inauguration.

The depot, constructed by the TSRTC, Greater Hyderabad Zone (GHZ) as part of its efforts to meet the growing transportation needs of people in the Old City and peripheral areas of the city , is spread over an area of 6.10 acres and has been construc ted at a cost of `8 crore.

“After completing all the pending works, pertaining to the construction of a diesel bunk inside the depot, within a month and a half, the daily operations of the depot will be expanded. While 12 buses have begun operations from the depot, this number will be increased to 89 buses soon. Around 2240 trips on various routes will also be completed by these buses,“ said A Purushotham, executive director of GHZ,

Later, the minister went to Laad Bazaar to review progress of the proposed modernization works. Other stops on the MAUD minister's agenda included the Clock Tower at Mahboob Chowk and Moghalpura, where the newly-constructed GHMC sports complex was inaugurated, in the presence of Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, deputy CM Mahmood Ali and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The minister also played basketball, badmin ton and cricket with Owaisi.

The sports complex, spread over an area of 1,520 sq metres and constructed at a cost of Rs.7.17 crore, is touted to be the second-largest such facility in the city's South Zone.

“Around 11 such complexes have been planned to be constructed at a cost of Rs.33.28 crore. Sports equipment worth Rs.9.58 crore has been procured for the Moghalpura sports complex, where around 400 students can undergo training in basketball, volleyball, cricket, skating, karate and yoga, among others,“ said a statement issued by the GHMC.
KTR, on Tuesday morning, also inaugurated a community hall at Gautham Nagar X Roads in Film Nagar. In addition to this, the minister also inaugurated a playground at Mailardevpally in Rajendranagar, AC toilets at Aramghar, a model market at Premavatipet in Rajendranagar and a Chintakunta park at Attapur.
