The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday inspected 22 restaurants and imposed a penalty of `6,63,590 for flouting norms such as running without trade licence, storing cooked food in refrigerators and not storing veg and non-veg food separately .

“The eateries which were not providing clean drinking water and not segregating waste were also fined,“ said Dr Mallikarjun, assistant medical officer of health, LB Nagar.According to officials, some eateries near water bodies are throwing waste in lakes and storm water drains. 

“The manholes are thus



getting choked with garbage,“ said a top GHMC official.

The GHMC penalised the establishments using a hotel inspection App.The App generates an automated bill with a list of norms flouted. 

GHMC commissioner Janardhan Reddy has instructed officials to inspect four eateries every day using the App and upload pictures in it. 

The App has 15 categories of assessment, including quality of food, temperature at which the food is stored, quality of water and hygiene conditions in kitchen and washrooms.
