The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is constructing a community hall at Housing Board Colony in Moulali using Expanded Polystyrene System (EPS) technology.

Bricks have not been used to construct this community hall, instead they have used high density polystyrene (thermocol) and GI wires.“We have a licence from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research -
Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai to carry out such constructions,“ said P Madhumo han of Consortium Techno solutions Private Limited, which is building the community hall.

“We have already

constructed one floor in at Chitra layout in LB Nagar a year back. The life and stability of the structure is equal to Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structure. This structure has been tested and veted,“ said P Madhumohan. According to GHMC, the structure is eco-friendly and is more economical when compared to regular construction.

“The construction will cost around `10 lakh and with this concept around 10% expenditure will be reduced. As thermocol has been used, the temperature will be decreased to five degree Celsius to eight degree Celsius and it will resist earthquakes,“ the civic body said in a statement.
