Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is gearing up for the smooth conduct of idol immersion across Hyderabad city.

Accordingly, arrangements were taken up at a cost of around Rs 17 crore of which Rs 5.40 crore was sanctioned for hiring cranes at various locations to immerse the idols on the day of nimajjanam in the city.

Speaking to press-persons here on Wednesday, GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore said that works on recarpeting of roads and pothole repairs have been completed on 80 km stretch along Ganesh immersion procession routes.

Expert swimmers are also being deployed with 10 special boats in Hussain Sagar Lake to look after the safety measures, Kishore said, adding that apart from 35 immersion points, nearly 20 mini ponds are being provided for immersion of idols.

He said that for the first time, GHMC is arranging cranes on its own and not with the help of the Irrigation Department, and 117 static cranes and 150 mobile cranes will be



stationed across the water bodies till completion of the nimajjanam.

“So far, 2,500 idols have been immersed and we are expecting another 10,000 to 12,000 idols coming for immersion at Hussain Sagar Lake. This time, nearly 70,000 lights are being provided for illumination”, he said.

A total of 150 transformers and 30 lakh water sachets will be provided to those coming to participate in the idol immersion on September 23 and 24 while 38 firefighting vehicles will be stationed along the procession routes for possible emergencies.

According to GHMC officials, Ganesh immersion procession routes would be cleaned and disinfected with bleaching powder and idols debris would be lifted and carted in coordination with other line departments.On the other hand, civic body officials are also preparing for the smooth conduct of Muharram and a sum of Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned for lighting, drinking water, sanitation and other works enroute Muharram procession.
