The enrolment in government schools has increased by 50,000 this academic year. While the overall enrolment increased by 50,000, the admissions have gone down in the class I in contrast with last year, said Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Education Kadiyam Srihari. The Minister held a review meeting with District Educational Officers (DEOs) at Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan here on Thursday. Government would soon start 84 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and 29 urban residential schools across the State, the Minister said, adding that these schools will impart academics in English Medium.

Srihari said that a workshop would be conducted in August to share experiences and best practices among DEOs to improve academic standards in the government schools. The Minister told the



DEOs to issue instructions to schools asking teachers not to use mobile phones in the classroom. He asked DEOs to take necessary steps to make plantation drive (Haritha Haram) success.

The Minister said he had directed the DEOs to instruct head masters to hold special classes for the class X students to improve the results in SSC 2018.

During the meeting, the DEOs were told to issue to provide snacks to students who sit in the special classes. The Minister said that 95 per cent of the schools have been provided with textbooks in June and all schools will get textbooks by end of this month. He also said that all the government schools have been provided with uniform cloth and 80 per cent of them was stitched.
