Traditional fervour and gaiety marked the Eid-Al-Adha celebrations popularly known as Bakrid, in the city on Wednesday. The festival of sacrifice is celebrated on the 10th day of the Dhul’ Hijjah, 12th month of the Islamic calendar

The biggest congregation was witnessed at the Eidgah Mir Alam near Nehru Zoological Park where close to 1.50 lakh people offered the prayers. Khateeb of Mecca Masjid Maulana Hafiz Rizwan Qureshi led the prayers. Huge gatherings were also witnessed at Macca Masjid, Eidgah Madannapet, Grand Mosque Public Garden and Masab Tank Hockey ground.

After the prayers the faithful went back to their homes and made arrangements for the sacrifice of the animals. Till early hours of the day, the sale of sheep



and cattle went at brisk pace with some traders from far off villages in the State and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra bringing in the sheep. The prices of the sheep had fallen by a few hundred on Wednesday morning.

The GHMC and the police department made special arrangements for the lifting of the animal waste from the colonies. Special teams headed by head constables and sub inspectors were formed to ensure the clearing of the animal waste from the colonies.

At the Eidgah Miralam, Hyderabad Commissioner Anjani Kumar and other police officials greeted the public on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, officials of the Minorities Welfare Department too were present at the Eidgah.
