Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police nabbed a man from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh at SR Nagar here on charges of cheating people in the guise of selling products at cheaper rates over e-commerce portal eBay.

According to police, the suspect, Vinay Babu got registered with e-Bay as a seller and uploaded advertisements of electronic goods and gadgets quoting cheap rates. In April this year, an Army Colonel lodged a complaint stating he had called Vinay Babu with the intention of buying air-conditioners. Babu assured to deliver four ACs for Rs 1.6 lakh.

“Babu told the Colonel he would send two ACs on payment and other

two for cash on delivery. The colonel paid Rs 80,000 through Paytm. He did not receive any ACs and when he called Babu, he gave silly excuses,” police said.

Based on a complaint, the Cyber crime police identified that the amount sent by the complainant reflected in Babu’s bank account in Bengaluru. “The mobile tower locations too indicated Babu was in Bengaluru. His address was tracked, but he had a narrow escape before the police team reached him,” officials said. On Friday, Babu’s mobile tower location indicated that he was at Kalyan Nagar, SR Nagar and he was nabbed. He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
