According to a report issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad office, on Sunday, the temperatures in the State were markedly below normal.

“The lowest minimum temperature of nine degrees Celsius was recorded at Adilabad. Medak had the highest fall in temperature where it registered 11 degrees Celsius, six degrees below the seasonal average of 17 degrees Celsius,” said the report.

“We have put out an alert saying the minimum temperatures could dip by two to five degrees Celsius below normal in the next 48 hours.

However, we have not issued a cold wave warning as of

now,” said Dr K Naga Ratna, a meteorologist from IMD Hyderabad.

Officials from the department described the prevalent condition as cold air condition which prevailed at isolated places over Telangana on Sunday. “There is constant flow of cold winds from the northern regions, which is bringing down the night-time temperature in Marathwada and Telangana.

However, after 48 hours the cold winds from the north would be intercepted by winds blowing over the State from the south-westerly region, which would bring some moisture over the air and help in retaining the heat radiated towards the earth, he said.
