As part of its `Mission Chabutra', the Golconda police detained 72 youths, including 15 minors, from various parts of Old City during a late night operation on Tuesday .

The operation, involving special police teams, was carried out between 1 am and 3 am. According to the police, these young men were seen either loitering around in the lanes and by-lanes or sitting on `chabutras' without any reason, allegedly creating panic among commuters. It was because of this that they were picked up, police said.

Teams of police personnel in plain clothes conducted this operation in areas such as Janaki Nagar, Meraj Colony , Toli Chowki and other adjoining areas, where a large number of youngsters were spotted till late in the night.

The police claimed that

these men were indulging in criminal activity . In an attempt to guide them and help them differentiate between right and wrong, police summoned the parents of these youngsters to Galaxy Function Hall on Wednesday and in their presence counselled their wards. Post the counselling session, the men were let off.

“These young men are wasting their valuable time loitering and putting their future at risk by roaming around during late night hours. The intention of the police is make them responsible for their career,“ said Golconda inspector Syed Fiaz.

Sources said that the parents of most of these youths work in the Gulf while they live here with their grandparents. They use this to their advantage to sneak out of their homes late in the night.
