Sania Mirza-Shuai Peng reach quarter-finals of US Open

In the US Open Tennis, in the Women's Doubles event, 4th seeded Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Shuai Peng have reached the quarter-finals. The Indo-Chinese duo defeated the unseeded pair of Romanian Sorana Cîrstea and Spanish Sara Tormo 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 in a tie breaker game in the pre quarter finals, this morning.

Overnight, Maria Sharapova, who is making a comeback in a Grand Slam after serving



a dope ban, was ousted in the 4th round by Anastasija Sevastova. In the Women Singles, 16th seed Latvian Anastasija defeated Sharapova, former number one, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals. Earlier, Sharapova had played superbly to upset world number two Simona Halep on the first day of the tournament. On other hand, two time US Open winner Venus Williams has reached the quarter finals.
