National Senior Athletics meet begins in Guwahati

The 58th National Interstate Senior Athletics meet has got to a flying start at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati this evening. 

Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal was the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony.

Former athlete P T Usha was also present in the opening ceremony along with several office-bearers of the Athletic Federation of India.Over 800



players from 29 states have taken part in the event. 

The Indian athletics team for the upcoming Asian Games to be held at Jakarta will be selected from this meet. 

Competitions are being held in a total of 42 categories. Today several preliminary rounds of track and field events were held.
