India had a tremendous day out in athletics winning several medals on Sunday, 1 October. The best outing of the Indian contingent came in the 1500m discipline where India won three medals. Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson won silver and bronze respectively, while Harmilan Bains won the silver medal in the women's event.

While Saroj had been up in the podium places in the latter stages of the race, Johson showed incredible mettle to come back from behind and surpass the runner in the third position of the

race.

Later in the day, incredible drama unfolded in the women's 100m hurdles after India's Jyothi Yarraji was disqualified for a false start. Yarraji pleaded her case to the umpires who told her that she could run if she wants, but her result would not be counted. Yarraji finished her race in the third position, but that was later updated to second after a successful review of the situation from the Indian camp. Wu Yanni, who had come into the event as one of the favourites was disqualified from the event.
