Jitu Rai wins gold at Commonwealth Games

Indian shooting ace Jitu Rai claimed the gold medal in men's 10 meter air pistol event by creating a new games record while compatriot Om Prakash Mitharval bagged a bronze. 

Weightlifter Pardeep Singh settled for a silver in the 105 kilogram category, lifting a total of 352 kilogram to claim the second spot. In Women's 10 meter Air Rifle event, India's Mehuli Ghosh clinched silver while compatriot Apurvi Chandela got bronze. Also, The Indian men's table tennis team upstaged defending champions Singapore 3-2 to enter the finals. 

National record holder Tejaswin Shankar advanced to the finals of the Commonwealth Games high jump competition after finishing ninth in the qualifying round. Shankar finished a joint fifth in group A and ninth overall. 

Indian swimmer Hima Das made the semifinals in the



women's 400 meter heats. with a timing of 52.11 seconds. In the women's 400 metres race, Poovamma Raju failed to qualify for the semi-finals. However, she still has a chance to reach next stage as the four fastest athletes outside the top four are also allowed into the semi-finals. 

Later in the day, India will take on Malaysia in Mixed Badminton Team Final. Also, Tejinder Singh will gun for gold in men's shot put final. In women's 10 thousand meter final today, India's Loganathan Suriya will compete.

In medals tally as of now, India occupies 3rd position with 17 honours comprising 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 Bronze. Australia continues to top the medal tally followed by England. Canada is placed fourth. It will be the biggest day today in the Games calendar so far with 33 gold medals to be decided.
