South Africa completed a 3-1 series win against Australia yesterday as they beat the visitors by a record 492 runs margin on the fifth day of fourth and last Test at Johannesburg.

This is the first time South Africa have beaten Australia in a home series since the 1969-70 season. Vernon Philander sent Australia crashing to defeat with a sensational spell of career best six for 21.

Chasing South Africa's total score of 832 runs of both the innings,

Australia were bowled out for 119 in their second innings and had earlier collected 221 in their first innings. It brought to an end a series of high-quality cricket and even greater off-field drama, culminating in a ball tampering scandal during the third Test at Cape Town.

The scandal resulted in former captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft handed overs bans for plotting and trying to tamper the ball with a sandpaper.
