A century by skipper Virat Kohli with steady support from Ajinkya Rahane propelled India to a six-wicket victory in the first One-Day International against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban. Visitors achieved the 270 runs target with 27 balls to spare.

Virat Kohli scored 112 runs, his 33rd ODI century, helping India not just to draw first blood in the six-match ODI series but also gave them their first win against South Africa at Kingsmead. 

Earlier, India was able to restrict South Africa to 269,



with good spells by Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Hosting Captain Faf du Plessis made 120 runs and was ably supported by Chris Morris and Quinton de Kock. 

Yadav took 3 wickets and Chahal took two, while Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed one each.

Chasing the target, India were off to a good start but lost two wickets in quick succession in the form of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. The Indian skipper and Ajinkya Rahane revived India in the chase.
