Skin Care during Summer

Thu 30 Apr 2015
Summers are the time to step out of home and flaunt your girly dresses. True it is, but that is not all. The rise in temperature brings along hot unruly winds, humidity, perspiration and dehydration as some by-products. Also, the skin gets directly impacted by these changes. Read on to find how to maintain your glowing skin even in this hot, sultry weather…

Wear Sunscreen:
This is the golden rule to avoid pigmentation, blemishes, tanning, rashes and other kinds of eruptions which are a usual sight during summer. The SPF or Sun Protection Factor should be at least 30 when you decide to make a move outside the home or office. Decide on what suits your individual skin type. Consult a good dermatologist and opt for medicated sunscreen in case the regular ones do not aid your case.

Drink lots of water:
Our human body is made up of 70% water. This in itself explains how vital this component is for the body. Water aids in digestion and creation of roughage, that helps cleanse the system. It keeps us hydrated and energised. Lack of water content in the human body can cause a condition called ‘dehydration’, which if not checked on time, can take on grave life-threatening forms.

Understand the effect of sun on your skin:
Sun’s rays are of different categories and they affect each of us differently. Usually, common man is unaware of these various rays. The result being,

we suffer silently due to ignorance. Look up some authentic dermatology websites or magazines or even a visit to a good dermatologist can prove effective.

The different kinds of Ultraviolet rays (UV rays) are as follows:
UV A rays : They carry the longest wavelength of the sun and penetrate the dermis. The dermis is the deepest layer of the skin. Sun damage via UV A rays can activate free radicals and promote skin aging.

UV B rays:  These rays affect the epidermis, the upper layer of the skin. Sunburn, allergic reactions, and even skin cancers are the consequence of UV B rays.

Infrared rays: These rays are born out of the direct heat from the sun. They cause great damage to skin by impacting the collagen present in your skin and also impact gravely the immune system of an individual.

 Wear protective clothing:
Everyone wants to go sleeveless during summer. But, it is a good idea to wear full sleeves clothes to negate or mitigate the harshness of sun on our skin.

Cover your face : When stepping out, make it a point to cover your face with a good cotton or muslin dupatta. Even stoles can come handy here. For protecting the head and hair, scarves, umbrellas and hair masks can prove useful.
