The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched MA in Migration and Diaspora in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode starting from January 2023 cycle. It must be noted that the MA programme ignored by IGNOU is the first of its kind to be introduced in the country. Students can check the complete brochure and eligibility criteria for the course on IGNOU’s official website; i.e. ignou.ac.in.

The duration of the MA programme is one year. The course will begin in the January-December session. The students will be provided with hard and soft copies of the study material, audio-visual course work and interactive counseling sessions.

The 80-credit programme is anticipated to provide students with new work opportunities in ministries of external and

foreign affairs, diplomatic missions, United Nations (UN) organisations, civil societies, and non-governmental organisations.

The programme will impart an understanding on migration processes, the role of diasporas in development, the development-migration matrix, policy decisions, planning and research, and regulations related to international migration and human trafficking issues.

It will also be useful for professionals working in development sectors, UN bodies, foreign affairs, cultural associations, tourism and social entrepreneurs. “The programme aims at developing knowledge and understanding for professionals who intend to work in the field of Migration Governance, Diaspora engagement, Human trafficking and labour flow,” said an official statement from IGNOU.
