The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced guidelines tailored for students with Type-1 diabetes who are set to participate in the 2024 board examinations. In response to the challenges faced by these students, CBSE has rolled out a set of provisions aimed at facilitating their examination experience.

According to the newly issued guidelines by CBSE, students with Type-1 diabetes will be permitted to carry specific items into the examination hall, securely stored in a transparent pouch or box.

These items include sugar tablets, chocolates, candies, fruits such as bananas, apples, oranges, snack items like sandwiches and high-protein diets, as well as prescribed medications and a 500ml water bottle. Additionally, students are allowed to bring glucometers, glucose testing strips, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) machines, Flash Glucose Monitoring (FGM) machines, and/or insulin pumps.

To avail of these facilities, students must adhere to a set of

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) outlined by CBSE. They are required to disclose their Type-1 diabetes status during the registration or submission of the List of Candidates (LOC). Furthermore, students, along with their school or parents, are instructed to inform the Centre Superintendent about the items they intend to bring to the examination center at least one day before the commencement of the examinations.

On the day of the examinations, students are urged to arrive at the school at least 45 minutes before the scheduled start time, ensuring they reach the examination hall no later than 9:45 am.

To facilitate the process, specific documents must be uploaded to the portal. These include recommendations from medical specialists regarding the use of CM/FGM/insulin pumps during the examinations, along with a parental undertaking affirming that these devices do not pose a communication threat and are solely intended to aid the students' medical needs without compromising examination integrity.
