New Delhi, January 12, 2015 (Agencies) The Delhi Police have held a gardener in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old woman whose body was found at a government nursery in Vasant Kunj on Saturday. Confirming the detention, a senior police officer told  that a formal arrest was likely to be made soon. He said the incident was a crime of passion and the outcome of a love affair gone wrong.

Police sources said the gardener and his accomplices raped and brutalised the woman before murdering her. He is now being interrogated about how many people were involved in the crime. The woman, it is learnt, had an extra marital

relationship with the gardener, who worked in the same factory as she did.

“With time they drifted apart as the accused thought she was being disloyal to him by getting closer to other men. When he failed to convince her, he decided to eliminate her,” said the officer. The woman’s mobile phone, her mangalsutra and a part of the money she received as salary have also been seized from the gardener, said a source.

The body was found on Saturday. It was partially disrobed with the hands tied up. The cause of death, suspected to be throttling, will become clearer after the post-mortem on Monday.
