Four of a family were killed while three others sustained grievous injuries in a gruesome collision between a car and a lorry on National Highway 50 near Hungund town, Bagalkot district, in the wee hours of Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Singhi (48), Umabai Singhi (45), Pushpabai Dharak (62) and Srikanthabai Dharak (65). The injured Deepak, Sunil and Sridhar have been admitted to a private hospital in



Bagalkot.

All the victims are from Bagalkot and they were returning home after visiting Venkateshwar Temple in Ballari in the car.

The accident occurred when the driver of the car lost control of the speeding vehicle and crashed into a stationary lorry.

The Ilkal and Hungund police had tough time in retrieving the bodies from the car, which has been turned into a heap of metal due to the impact of the crash.
