Bihar: FCI releases around 3 Lakh Metric tonnes of wheat this year under Domestic OMSS

In Bihar, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has released around three Lakh Metric tonnes of wheat this year under Domestic Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) to curb rising prices of flour and other wheat-based products. 

General Manager of FCI, Bihar Region Sanjeev Kumar Bhadani told media persons in Patna today that since February 2023 the corporation has made available the wheat of Fair and Average Quality (FAQ) and under Relaxed Specification (URS) category to flour producers. He said every week an average of six thousand metric tonne of wheat is released through



77 depots of FCI across the State.

The FCI GM said strict monitoring is being maintained on OMSS to check misuse and pilferage of wheat for other processes like trading. He said small flour millers have been given preference in the scheme. Mr. Bhadani said one valid PAN card and FSSAI license holder is given 100 metric tonnes of wheat in each bidding of OMSS.

The NDA government has started OMSS to provide relief to common people from skyrocketing prices of flour, sooji, and maida.
