Housing and Urban affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the budgetary allocation for Smart Cities Mission in the next financial year has been hiked by more than 54 percent over last year’s allocation. 

Briefing reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Puri said, an amount of 6,169 crore rupees has been proposed in the budget for smart cities. He said, under the mission, 99 cities have been selected so far and a total investment of over two lakh crore rupees has



been proposed in the Smart City Plans. 

The Minister said, 2,500 crore rupees have been allocated under the Swachh Bharat Mission during 2018-19 which translates into an increase of around nine per cent over last year’s allocation. 

He said, nearly 52 lakh toilets have been constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). Mr Puri also said that around three lakh community and public toilets have been constructed.
