MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said the BJP-RSS combine is raking up the Ram temple issue only to divert the attention of people facing serious problems.

Speaking to newsmen here on Monday, Asad wondered how a legislation could be brought about to resolve the contentious issue when the matter is pending in the Supreme Court. “There is no provision in the Constitution by which the legislation route could be taken. BJP-RSS is deliberately bringing up the issue to divert the attention of the people from real issues confronting the nation,” the MP said.

Reacting sharply to remarks made by UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya that

legislation would be brought in Parliament to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Asad termed it an ‘atrocious statement’ and said when the Ayodhya matter is pending in the apex court, Maurya should not be talking about the mandir in the language he had used.

“The legislation option is always there. It can be done if SC delays its judgment or even after it delivers verdict,” Maurya said.

Asad said people are concerned about jobs and price rise and floods in Kerala. “When the government’s attention should be on matters of importance, BJP leaders are talking about constructing a mandir,” he said.
