US,Britain and France present draft resolution at UNSC seeking full investigation into suspected chemical attack in Syria

US, Britain and France have demanded full investigation into the suspected chemical attack in Syria that killed at least 72 people on Tuesday. They presented a draft resolution at the meeting of the United Nations Security Council convened by Britain and France last night. The resolution backs a probe by the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and demands that Syria co-operate to provide information on its military operations on the day of the attack.

Russia, Syria's ally, rejected the draft resolution as categorically unacceptable, saying it is



ready to veto the measure if no compromise text is agreed. Diplomats said, Russia turned up at the negotiations with a rival draft resolution that made no reference to specific demands that Damascus cooperate with an inquiry.

US, Britain and France held off calling a vote on the resolution to allow time for negotiations with Russia. The vote could be held later today. Ahead of the talks, US Ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley said, US could take unilateral action if the UN fails to respond to the attack. She lashed out at Russia for failing to rein in Syria.
