But as part of Uber’s latest update, there’s some pretty worrying fine print that you should probably know.
Uber can now track passengers’ locations up to five minutes after they’re dropped off.
And to make it worse, it can even track them when their app is closed.

Uber claims it will help cut down the frustration experienced when drivers and passengers can’t locate each other.
On their website, they said: ‘Uber collects your location data from the time of trip request through five minutes after the trip ends, including when the app is in the background.

‘We do this to improve pickups, drop-offs, customer service, and to enhance safety. Trip Related Location Data is collected during the following times.’
But people are not entirely convinced, seeing it more of ‘an invasion of privacy.’
Ashvir Kandola, who uses Uber regularly, told Metro.co.uk: ‘There is no need for a driver to be tracking a customer after drop off, so it’s an unjustified invasion of privacy in my opinion.’
While Esther Nagle, who has never used Uber before, told us she’d reconsider using it in the

future.

She said: ‘It would certainly make me think twice, or more about using them!’ before asking, ‘How are their drivers regulated? Does this put people at risk?’

Uber has previously faced legal issues regarding passenger data and were forced to pay out $20,000 after a case in the US.
The company were forced to pay the large sum following an investigation into its ‘God View’ tool which allowed drivers to track passengers in real time.
Luckily, you do have the option to decide how much information you want to share, choosing either ‘Always’ or ‘Never’.

But once you’ve picked the ‘Never’ option, it means you’ll have to manually enter your pick up and drop off details every time you use the app.
A spokesperson for Uber told Metro.co.uk: ‘We’re always thinking about ways we can improve the rider experience from sharpening our ETA estimates to identifying the best pick up location on any given street.
‘Location is at the heart of the Uber experience, and we’re asking riders to provide us with more information to achieve these goals.’
