Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy is visiting UAE and Oman from February 26 to March 2 to consolidate naval relations and explore new avenues for cooperation, the Government of India said in a press statement.

After completion of his visit to UAE, Admiral Lanba will visit Oman from Wednesday to hold discussions with H E Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs and the three Service Chiefs.

Admiral Lanba will visit the Sultan Qaboos Naval Academy, the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, where he will also visit the Fleet Maintenance Facility and the latest Khareef Class corvette, RNOV Al Shamikh.

Admiral Lanba began his visit from UAE on Sunday where he will hold talks with the Mohammed bin Ahmad al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence of UAE among other heads of the forces.

He will be visiting the Ghantoot Naval Base, where he will be briefed on the latest Baynunah Class corvette. He will also visit the National



Defence College where he will interact with the Student Officers, and also tour the training facilities at Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum Naval College of UAE. Admiral Lanba will also lay a wreath at the Wahat al Karama Memorial.

The Indian Navy cooperates with the navies of Oman and UAE on many fronts, which include training, operational interactions and exchange of ‘White Shipping Information’, through the medium of Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks, as also through the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee with UAE and Joint Military Cooperation Committee with Oman, the Indian Defence Ministry stated.

In addition, the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman have been conducting the exercise Naseem al Bahr since 1993. Ten editions have been held so far, the last one off Goa coast on January 16.
