Hyderabad: A transport agent was arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force on Thursday for sending a hoax email to Mumbai police informing about a hijack plan of some strangers at Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai airports.

Following the email, the security at all the three airports was heightened and passengers were subjected to a thorough checking to foil any hijack attempt.

The suspect, Motaparthi Vamshi Krishna (32) of Miyapur and a native of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh had sent the email after creating a new email id from an internet centre.

Vamshi Krishna had promised his girlfriend who lives in Chennai a trip to Mumbai and Goa. As he failed to arrange money for the trip, he sent the email to the Mumbai police who acted swiftly and all airports were alerted.

“Vamshi Krishna told his girlfriend that they cannot go on a trip as all flights are cancelled in view of terror alert and dropped the plan,” said DCP Task Force, B Limba Reddy.

In the email, Vamshi Krishna, introduced himself as a woman and made a claim of having overheard ‘a group of six guys who were discussing of hijacking aircrafts in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai.”

As the email was generated from Hyderabad, the Mumbai police alerted the city police who immediately launched investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the email. During the probe, they found that the mail was sent from an internet centre at S.R. Nagar and they zeroed in on Vamshi Krishna.
