Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao said that his government was striving hard for the economic empowerment of farmers in the State.

Addressing the 16th Plenary session of Telangana Rashtra Samithi at J.R. Garden in Kompally on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the State Government wants to turn agriculture into a profitable profession by offering various incentives to the farmers.

He said that the government has already waived off crop loans of Rs. 17,000 crore and it has also decided to provide fertilizer subsidy of Rs. 4,000 per acre for two crop seasons from next year onwards. He said that amount would be directly deposited in farmers’ accounts in the month of May and October from next year.

Reacting to Congress party’s demand that the scheme should be implemented from this year onwards, KCR said that the State Government does not have complete list of farmers and therefore, the same could be misused.

He said that the government would constitute village-wise farmers’ committees across Telangana State and only genuine farmers would be included in the list of

beneficiaries. He also announced that a Seed Fund of Rs. 500 crore would be formed in next year’s annual budget.

Admitting that many farmers were committing suicide due to various reasons, he said that steps would be taken to prevent suicides.

KCR said that the Telangana State was formed on the issues of water, funds and jobs and his government was taking steps to address all three issues. He said that the government took up the ambitious task of providing irrigation facilities to 1 crore acres of land in the State. Therefore, several irrigation projects were started to achieve the goal.

The Chief Minister also listed out various schemes being implemented by the TRS Government and claimed that all sections of the society were happy with the performance of his government. With a membership of over 75 lakh, he said TRS has emerged as the largest political party in the country.

The Plenary session was attended by nearly 15,000 delegates including State ministers, legislators, MPs, chairmen of various corporations and other party leaders. Several resolutions were also passed in the plenary session.
