Government will support fishermen: Indrakaran Reddy

Nirmal: Endowments and Housing Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said that the State government was implementing a slew of schemes for the empowerment of fishermen community. He was addressing a gathering after distributing subsidised trolleys to beneficiaries from fishermen cooperative societies in Nirmal on Friday.

Indrakaran Reddy asserted that the government had released 15.6 crore fishlings in 150 tanks in Nirmal district by spending Rs 1.27 crore. Similarly, fishermen were allowed to rear fingerlings in reservoirs at a nominal fees. Market yards are being constructed in villages and towns at acost of Rs 10 lakh per unit. Nets are being provided to fishermen at 50 per cent subsidy.

insurance coverage of Rs 3 lakh was extended to fishermen for taking up cage culture in major irrigation tanks. A sum of Rs 10 lakh was allocated for erecting community hall in a locality. Efforts were on to develop hatcheries near irrigation projects such as Kadem, Swarna and Gaddennavagu, he added.

In order to revitalise fisheries sector, training will be provided to youth from fishermen community. Mopeds are going to be distributed to enable them to market their produce. Joint Collector Ch Sivalingah, District Fisheries Officer B Balakrishna, Animal Husbandry Department Deputy Director Prabhakar, District Rural Development Officer (DRDO) Venkateshwarlu, and Nirmal Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Prashunamba were present.
