The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to complete the pre-monsoon nala desiltation works before June 10 to ensure free flow of sewage and rain water.

This year, authorities had planned to clear 7.44 lakh cubic metres of sludge from the nalas. Of these, 4.96 lakh cubic metres of sludge has been targeted for clearance during the pre-monsoon desiltation works.

During a meeting with GHMC Commissioner, B Janardhan Reddy, engineering officials informed that till date 2.45 lakh cubic metres of sludge was extracted from the nalas as part of pre-monsoon works.Reddy said 49 per cent nala desiltation was completed and directed the officials to complete the pre-monsoon desiltation works before June 10.

However,

compared to last May, when 2.32 lakh cubic metres of sludge was cleared, this year already 2.45 lakh cubic metres was cleared. This year, authorities have issued orders pertaining to 313 works to be taken up with Rs 28.49 crore.

Officials said four quarry pits were identified at Gajularamaram, Rajendranagar, Amberpet and Peerzadiguda to dump the collected sludge. In view of the recent irregularities in the desiltation works, this time officials have decided to install GPS tags for trucks transporting the sludge to the quary pits.

More importantly, the loaded trucks will be weighed at electronic weigh bridges and all the data will be synchronised with GHMC system. Day-wise dumping details will be disseminated through an app, said Reddy.
