The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has invited private operators to partner with them, through Build, Own and Transfer (BOT) basis to build new toilet infrastructure in the city.
Toilets are being designed with separate entrances for men, women and ramps for physically challenged, keeping the maintenance standards in mind. In this connection, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy sought the support of private operators and also requested them to take up providing public toilets.
In the first phase, GHMC invited proposals for establishing new toilets at 25 locations, which have been found suitable for public usage as well as feasibility of use and pay services.A pre-bid meeting was held in the presence of the GHMC commissioner which was attended by about 25 private operators on Saturday. He interacted with the operators to reiterate the commitment of the city administration to usher in global conveniences for the denizens of the twin cities.

Outlining the plan for building the toilet infrastructure, additional commissioner (Health and Sanitation), Ravi Kiran explained that about 164 more modern toilets will come up soon in twin cities. He also requested the operators to bring prefabricated toilets, already installed at various locations in the city into use on operational and maintenance basis.
According to sources, GHMC will provide water and sewerage facilities. Request for proposal (RFP) for 30 Prefabricated toilets has also been announced. Private companies have also evinced interest in installing urinals and toilets as a  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Access to private toilets will also be provided at over 300 petrol bunks in the city.
“The GHMC’s effort is to provide good quality usable toilets to the citizens. This is also an important parameter for grading cities under the “Swachh Survekshan” by the ministry of urban development,” he added.
