Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday reiterated his government’s commitment to provide 12 per cent reservation to Muslims. He said the government was awaiting Sudhir Commission’s report. Addressing a large gathering at Nizam College Grounds, where the State government held a grand ‘Dawat-e-Iftar’, the Chief Minister informed that the State government would take up the issue with the Centre, once the Sudhir Committee came up with the report.
He said the government was awaiting the committee’s report and once it was received, a special Assembly session would be convened to pass a resolution in favour of reservations.
Later, the proceedings would be forwarded to New Delhi for materialisation. “I remain committed for this and surely will provide reservation to the minority community, as promised,” he said. The Chief Minister said the State government had earmarked Rs 1,200 crore for the welfare of the community for the first time.
Exuding confidence on the flagship scheme of minority residential (English medium) schools, he called upon the

community to avail the benefits provided to children in the form of quality education that was being provided at a cost of Rs 3,900 crore.
He felt that 120 residential schools across Telangana would provide better future to their children. Sharing happiness at the reflection of Ganga Jamuni tehzeeb of Telangana at the event, Chandrashekar Rao wished the community Eid Mubarak on the occasion.
Later, he distributed clothes to poor Muslims in Secunderabad and said that the culture enjoyed during the 700-year-old Muslim rule was a benchmark of communal amity and secularism. He said that the same should be achieved in Telangana, which would set an example across the globe.
The Dawat-e-Iftar at Nizam College Grounds was attended by Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatraya, Legislative Council Chairman T Swamy Goud, MPs Asaduddin Owaisi and D Srinivas, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, MLC Mohammed Saleem, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and TRS secretary general K Keshava Rao.
