Hyderabad : MIM floor leader Akbarudddin Owaisi has praised the spending plans of Telangana Government for the financial year 2017-18.

Speaking on the Appropriation Bill 2017 in Legislative Assembly on Monday, Akbaruddin Owaisi said that Finance Minister Eatala Rajender has come up with Supplementary Estimates of Rs 41,235 crores for the current financial year 2016-17. “This is the highest-ever for the supplementary estimates for our State. Even in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, the governments had not presented the supplementary estimates of such huge amounts. If we add the supplementary estimates to the financial year’s budget estimates of Rs 1,30,416 crores, we get a figure of total projected expenditure of Rs 1,71,651 crores,” he said.

However, the MIM MLA said while presenting the budget for 2017-18, the Finance Minister came up with revised estimates of Rs 1,12,191 crores for 2016-17. If the supplementary estimate is added to the revised estimate, we get a figure of Rs 1,53,426 crores for 2016-17.

Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded the revival of the District Development and Review Committees in all 31 districts. He also demanded an effective Summer Action Plan which

should include steps to curb consumption of liquor.

The MLA said that the GHMC should be given its due share of profession tax collections. He said out of the 20 lakh households in GHMC area, there are 5 lakh households living in slum areas.

“The government has sanctioned one lakh two-bedroom housing units for Hyderabad and foundation stone was laid for these 2-bedroom housing complexes at a few locations just on the eve of GHMC elections in February last year. There has been a mad rush for 2-bedroom houses not only among the slum-dwellers but also among the other poor households living in rented houses in the twin cities. I feel that the Government may need to build over 10 lakh two-bedroom housing units for the slum-dwellers and other BPL households in GHMC area alone,” he demanded.

The MIM MLA also demanded higher allocations for Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority. He said that the government should also start construction of Metro Rail project in the Old City. He also drew the attention of State Government regarding the supply of drugs in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and demanded that immediate steps be taken to curb such activities.
