Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman is decided to provide budding cricketers the best of facilities in their vicinity, the former Indian cricketer’s VVS Sports Academy has tied up with Delhi Public School, Nacharam, to set up his second cricket academy.
VVS Sports Academy had brought up its first cricket academy at Sreenidhi International School two years ago. “My idea was to have at least four to five academies in different parts of Hyderabad. It is not easy for the young enthusiast cricketer to travel long distances for his training. They should not waste time in commuting, this is what I realised as a youngster. I had spent 45 minutes to 1 hour travelling and was exhausted by the time I reached the academy. The practice was could not be so intense. Keeping in this view that young children endure, I have decided to start the second academy at DPS Nacharam,” he said.
“Komariah

(DPS chairman) and I share the same ideology of providing the best of opportunities to youngsters. So I zeroed in on this school. They have around 7,500 children on the campus and this will benefit them. A lot of them want to play the game. Interested youngsters from nearby areas can also use the facilities. I hope it will get the best out of all the budding cricketers from that area,” Laxman said.
The academy will begin operations with the summer camp which will run from April 3 to May 27. The camp will be conducted in three sessions, 7 am to 9.30 am, 3.30 pm to 6 pm and 6 pm to 8.30 pm. The academy students will be segregated into three age groups: 5 to 10 years, 10 to 16 years and above 16 years. The academy will have 10 wickets, out of which five are turf wickets, two Astro-turf, two matting and two cement. It will also have a gym, playing ground and bowling machine.
