India's tallest man - Dharmendra Pratap Singh - has joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Singh was welcomed into the party by Naresh Patel, the SP's state president. The party also posted a picture of Dharmendra Pratap Singh posing with party leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav.

"Dharmendra Pratap Singh of Pratapgarh acquired the membership of Samajwadi Party while expressing trust in the policies of the SP and the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav," said a statement by the Samajwadi

A towering personality at 8 feet 2 inches, Dharmendra Pratap Singh is the tallest man in India. The 46-year-old has his name in the Guinness World Records and is also seen as one of the tallest men in Asia.

Singh is a resident of Narharpur Kasiyahi village in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district. He also holds a master's degree. Dharmendra Pratap Singh underwent bilateral hip replacement surgery in 2019 after he started experiencing arthritic pain.

In April of last year, he even campaigned for an associate who was contesting the UP Panchayat elections.
