The Hyderabad and Cyberabad police have caught as many as 267 minors and 153 drunk drivers respectively during the special drives conducted in the city against violators of the Motor Vehicles Act. The minors were caught on Wednesday by the Hyderabad Traffic Police on charges of driving vehicles without a valid licence and counselled them along with their parents and guardians.
Hyderabad Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender during a meeting on Thursday said, “A special drive was conducted on Wednesday in the city against minors driving without a valid driving licence. As many as 267 cases have been booked and this is the highest number in recent times.
We have counselled the minors and their

parents.” The top cop stressed on the need of creating awareness on road safety among the teenagers. The counselling sessions for the respondents would continue for the next two days, he said.
“Every year thousands of such cases are booked. In 2016, over 2,000 road accidents took place and about 350 persons lost their lives. Most of the deceased were aged below 25 years. Apart from that, 2,900 persons were imprisoned this year for drunken driving.
Negligent driving is resulting in accidents,” said the Additional Commissioner. The Additional Commissioner further said that special drives would continue in future to ensure the safety of citizens and to bring down the number of road accidents.
